We just adopted an 8 mnth old blk lab. He was diagnosed today with Kennel cough.Any advice?

My husband took him for his vet. appt. today(I was called into work for a stat test) so I missed the appt.Anyway he was given antibiotics,however online it says that Kennel cough is viral so antibiotics will not work…the poor puppy is suffering.Thick nasal drippings, etc…I just want to make him more comfortable.
